Abstract

[Also in Division G2] A telemetric telescope has two optical tracks A and B vertically shifted relative to each other and each producing an image of the field observed by means of a single catadioptric objective 13, the aiming axes of the two tracks converging at a predetermined distance from the telescope and the telemetric images being observed together with the image produced by a separate, third, optical system C through a common eyepiece 22. Images from the tracks A, B and C are focussed on the surfaces of prism 21 and glass blade 25 respectively which are engraved with micrometric scales of which the mark (4) in the high magnification telemetric field of view, Fig. 1 (not shown), registers with a point in the image (38A) formed by track A, while the mark (5) in the low magnification field of view of system C registers with the same point in the image (37) formed by track C. The image (38B) formed by track B only coincides with image (38A) when the telescope and the firearm to which it may be attached, are given the necessary elevation. The said predetermined distance corresponds to the " fighting distance " for which images (38A), (38B) coincide, without adjustment of elevation, on the mark (4). Other marks on the scale represent different object distances. In a modification, the landscape is anamorphosed in the vertical sense by an afocal prism system inserted between prisms 11 and 12 of tracks A and B. By this means, the slight displacement from coincidence of images (38A), (38B), Fig. 1, due to parallax between tracks A and B is corrected.
