Abstract
1333699 Optical sight aligner W R WEAVER CO 10 July 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 32144/72 Heading F3C A device for optically bore sighting a telescopic sight 52, Fig. 2, which is mounted on a firearm 48 comprises a housing 2, Fig. 1, which contains image-inverting and reverting lenses 18, 22 and an aiming point 12<SP>1</SP> formed by crosshairs 12 therein and a housing 4 which is secured to the housing 2 and contains an aiming point 46<SP>1</SP>, formed by cross-hairs 46, and a lens 32 therein. The housing 2 has a member 26 secured thereto, the member 26 having a tapered surface 28 which is received by the bore of the firearm 48. The aiming point 46<SP>1</SP> is carried by a member 38 which has an enlarged portion 40 and is adjustable, by a screw 44 and a spring 60, within the housing 4. The latter is provided with a translucent cap 36. The device is calibrated as shown in Fig. 3, the axis 66 of the housing 2 and the axis 70 of the housing 4 being directed to a target 68 which is at a distance representing infinity. The device is then mounted on the barrel of the firearm as shown in Fig. 2, and is adjusted to align the axis 72, Fig. 4, of the firearm with the axis 66 of the housing 2. The sight 52, which is provided with an erector system 74, is aligned with the aiming point 46<SP>1</SP> of the housing 4 and is therefore bore sighted.
