Abstract

818,741. Couplings. LIBBEY - OWENSFORD GLASS CO. Aug. 12, 1957 [Aug. 27, 1956], No. 25327/57. Class 38 (1). Connections to an electrically conducting film are made via a tape having on one surface an adhesive, containing a finely divided conductive material, which is placed in contact with the conducting film. The tape 15 (Fig. 3) is applied to opposite edges of a conductive film 12 carried by a sheet 11, and one end may be extended to form a connecting lug 18. The tape 15 may be of metal such as copper foil, of thickness 1 to 2 thousandths of an inch, or it may be of plastic or any other flexible material such as canvas or glass cloth. A composite plastic tape may be used comprising two layers containing different proportions of powdered metal. The adhesive may be pressure sensitive, may contain a powdered metal such as silver, and be a silicone suitable for curing by heat and pressure. In the case of a film already provided with connections such as fired on silver strips the contact between the silver and the film may be improved by applying a conductive adhesive strip so that it overlays both the silver and the film, Fig. 6 (not shown). The strip may be incorporated in a laminated structure of transparent sheets (Fig. 4, not shown).
