Abstract

1307834 Laminates ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO Ltd 11 June 1970 [20 June 1969] 31350/69 Heading B5N A laminated structure comprises at least two substantially rigid layers, an electrically conductive layer arranged to apply heat to a region of one of of the substantially rigid layers and to the corresponding region of an interlayer between the substantially rigid layers, the material of the interlayer being such that the corresponding region of the interlayer is maintained in a flexible condition by the applied heat but the remainder of the interlayer may become substantially rigid with reduction in temperature, and strainrelieving separator means between the substantially rigid layers and extending across or within the remainder of the interlayer at least to the peripheral edge thereof from the adjacent edge of, the electrically conductive layer. The laminated structures may be used for windows for pressurized aircraft the substantially rigid layers being of glass or acrylic or polycarbonate resin and the interlayer being of polyvinyl butyral. The electrically conductive layer may be deposited on an inner surface of one of the substantially rigid layers. The strain-relieving separator means may be a discontinuity in the bond between one of the substantially rigid layers and the interlayer, e.g. due to the use of a release agent or masking tape, or a discontinuity in the interlayer itself.
