Abstract

818,733. Arc welding systems. UNITOR A. S. Feb. 21, 1957 [Feb. 21, 1956], No. 5903/57. Class 38 (4). In an arc welding apparatus wherein a set of resistors are connected in series with the electrodes to automatically adjust the welding transformer secondary current between predetermined limits, a central transformer is arranged to supply a bridge circuit connected to two relays giving adjustment in two directions. A welding transformer 1, Fig. 1, supplies electrodes 2, 3 through the primary of central transformer 4, the secondary of which is connected through a rectifier 5, to bridge network 6, Fig. 1, comprising linear and non-linear resistors 61, 62. The voltage output from the bridge network operates valves 73, 74. With resistor 81. connected in circuit, valve 73 operates relay 75, reducing the secondary current of transformer 1, whereas with resistor 82 connected, valve 74 operates relay 76 and increases the secondary current.. At normal welding currents, the grid voltage applied to valves 73, 74 becomes negative, thus blocking them. To limit this grid voltage, transformer 4 is arranged to saturate.
