Abstract
817,727. Contacting gases with liquids. BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V., DE. Dec. 12, 1956 [Dec. 14, 1955], No. 37986/56. Class 55 (2). A gas-liquid contact column has at least one tray formed of sections and one or more longitudinal supports suspended within the column, some or all of the sections of the tray being supported at their corners by not more than two longitudinal supports and by adjacent sections and/or a support or supports on the wall of the column, those sections, if any, not having longitudinal supports being supported by adjacent sections and/or a support or supports on the walls of the column. As shown in Fig. 1 the tray comprises four sections supported by collars on a longitudinal support 5 and a supporting ring (not shown) secured to the wall of the column. In the arrangement of Fig. 3 those sections 16 and 18 adjacent the wall of the column are partly supported by supports on the wall of the column and partly by longitudinal supports 17 or connections to other sections as shown at 19 and 22. Sections 20 and 23 are supported partly by the supports 17 and by connections to other sections as shown at 21 and 24. Section 25 is supported solely by connections to the plates 20 as shown at 26. The connections between the sections may be as described in Specification 817,728. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the sections are supported by wall supports, two transverse beams 29 and six longitudinal supports 31. The longitudinal supports may be common to a plurality of superposed contact trays.
