990,774. Contacting gases with liquids. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Aug. 29, 1963 [Aug. 31, 1962 (2)], No. 34257/63. Heading BIR. A gas/liquid contact column comprises perforated trays 2 arranged horizontally one above the other and so dimensioned that there is a gap of between 1 and 20 mm., preferably of between 3 and 10 mm., between the edge of each tray and the column wall. The trays may be supported (as shown) directly by legs 3 attached to the column wall or by transverse support members supported by such legs. In a modification the trays may be supported by legs upstanding from an annular flange secured to the column wall or by an axially disposed rod which supports a number of trays. Specifications 764,650 and 843,280 are referred to.
