Abstract

752,784. Contacting gases with liquids. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP POLAK & SCHWARZ'S ESSENCEFABRIEKEN. Dec. 13, 1954 [Dec. 15, 1953], No. 35961/54. Class 55(2). A gas-liquid contact column is packed with a series of units 1 constructed of spaced plates 2 of double metal gauze, e.g. of stainless steel, the units being placed in close contact one upon another in such a manner that the plates of one unit are not parallel to those of the unit immediately above or below. Each unit is fitted with a liquid collecting device which is in close contact with. the walls of the column and the plates of the unit. As shown in the case of a circular column the collecting device is in the form of a frustoconical ring 3, preferably of double metal gauze. The gauze for the plates and the collecting devices is preferably used in such a manner that the wires are at an angle of 45 degrees to the upper edge of the plates. The lower corners of the plates are preferably sloped off as shown and the height of any unit is preferably less than the H.E.T.P. of the packed column. In an example the height of the units was 2 inches and the H.E.T.P. was 5 inches. Specifications 451,014 and 620,129 are referred to.
