426,560. Washing gases. SAYLES, H. S., Norton Hall, The Green, Norton-on-Tees, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. Oct. 3, 1933, No. 27169. [Class 55 (ii)] Apparatus for washing, distilling, absorbing, or otherwise treating gases with liquids of the kind in which gases pass over liquid films flowing over vertical plate elements 2 arranged transversely in superposed tiers, has means for delivering liquid as a film to the elements comprising collectors consisting of two or more closely adjoining rows of parallel inclined sheets 1, adjacent rows being inclined in opposite directions so that no vertical spaces occur between the sheets and liquid is delivered to both sides of the plates without cascading. The collector sheets 1 are narrow as compared with the packing elements and may be integral therewith, the tops of the elements 2 being slotted and the tongues bent over in turn in opposite directions. The packing elements may be of aluminium and may interlock by means of the slits and tongues. The collector sheets contact with the top tier and are provided preferably at the top of each tier ; the sheets may be curved as in Fig. 2. Specification 424,414 is referred to.
