Abstract
390,682. Treating gases with liquids. WALLIS, J. S., 220, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A. July 1, 1932, No. 18701. [Class 55 (ii).] The trays of fractionating-towers comprise a number of spaced troughs 7 the openings between them forming vapour passages over which hoods 12 are disposed, their edges which are preferably serrated extending into the troughs. The trough ends are supported by angle cross members 4, 6, and at one end a plate is secured to the tower wall and to member 4 whilst at the other a depending baffle 15 is secured to member 6 and carries an upstanding weir 16. Plates 2 of adjacent trays are arranged at opposite sides of the tower and provide pools of liquid which has descended from the tray above over the weir. This liquid passes into the troughs over a distributing baffle 14 through V-shaped depressions corresponding in number to the troughs, the liquid level in which is determined by the weir 16.
