Abstract
392,475. Washing gases. NORTH METROPOLITAN ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY CO. and RHEAM, G. T. T., Northmet House, Southgate, London. Dec. 14, 1932, No. 35439. [Class 55 (ii).] A gas-washer in which the gas passes through a chamber 1 between vertical plate baffles 3 down which water flows, has at the top of the chamber a tank 7 in the bottom of which are elongated apertures 25 each surrounded by a weir box 27 extending into the tank so that water flows from over at least one edge 31 of the top in a thin stream on to the top of the baffles. The height of each weir is adjustable. The baffles 3 may be rectangular, concave or double concave in section and are placed at right-angles to one another, the weir boxes being similarly placed. The baffles may be tapered at the top 33 to extend into the bottoms 25 of the weir boxes or may be integral therewith. A division plate 35 on the top of a baffle 3 maintains the water flow on both sides. The tops and sides of the weir may converge upwardly, or the sides 229 may extend down to an integral baffle 203. The weirs may wash the chamber walls, and the water is recirculated through tanks 9, 11.
