Abstract

548,802. Gas meters. BINGHAM, J. H. March 21, 1941, No. 3849. [Class 54] [Also in Group XXII] A gas meter body is built up from sheet metal panels formed with outwardly presented flanged joints secured together by spot-welding and then sealed by soldering. In the meter shown the diaphragm compartments 10a, 10b consist of side panels 11, combined vertical partitions 12a and horizontal partitions 12b, end panels 15 and bottom trays 13 all having outwardly presented flanged joints. The upper compartment 16 above the horizontal partitions 12b comprises side panels 17, end panels 18 and a top closure panel 19 having similarly outwardly presented flanged joints. The valve grids 20a, 20b and Y-shaped delivery conduits 21 of semi-circular cross-section are mounted on a valve plate 22 above the partitions 12b. One port of each grid leads to a shallow box 22a or 22b below the valve plate connected by short pipe 23a, 23b to the diaphragm compartments 10a, 10b. Another port of each grid leads to a similar box 24a or 24b connected by a pipe 25a, 25b to interior of the diaphraghm. The pipes 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b are provided with spacing sleeves and washers and are threaded to receive securing nuts. The other ports in the grids are connected by the conduit 21 to the delivery pipe 27 or the conduit 21 may screw into a box 29 carrying the delivery pipe.
