Scrubbers and washers.-An air filtering or washing apparatus of the " wetplate " type comprises two or more series of inclined plates b, b' provided with projections g which are held in recesses f in supporting bars d. Wedgeshaped grid-bars i, Figs. 4 and 7, provided with distance-pieces j, are placed between the upper ends of the plates b, b<1>, and the bars and the top edges of the plates form the bottom of an upper water tank h. The grid-bars ensure a uniform stream of water over the plate surfaces. The water is raised from a lower tank to the upper tank h by a pump m; while an open overflow pipe o is placed between the tanks h and k.
