Abstract

Flotation sepn. of two liquids of different densities, in particular the sepn. of oil from water to purify greasy effluent from industrial premises; basically, the mixt. is poured through an emulsion-breaking filter into a tank, down one side of a bank of spaced, inclined plates to meet a rising stream of compressed air bubbles; an aerated oil film climbs up the underside of each plate to an oil takeoff chamber, at the top of the tank while purified water collects at the other side of the bank on plates. No moving parts are involved, and high rate continuous sepn. is achieved with negligible maintenance and simple cleaning.
