Abstract

1438725 Parallel or series settling tanks PIELKENROOD-VINITEX BV 12 Nov 1973 [13 Nov 1972] 52423/73 Heading BID Two flotation and/or settling tanks in a basin 1 have inclined separation passages which may be formed by inclined corrugated plates or troughs and are so arranged that the tanks may be connected in series or in parallel, by shifting gates 18 and 19. Series flow as shown is from inlet channel 4 to outlet channel 15. For parallel flow, gates 18 and 19 are removed and set in guides 21 whereupon inlets 4 and 11 are connected together and outlets 8 and 15 are connected together. The connecting channel 20 may be replaced by a pipe 24 (Figs. 2 and 3 not shown) having a valve and terminating in a transverse slotted pipe adjacent a baffle plate. Each tank may be replaced by an array of tanks in parallel, the first group having more tanks than the second. The tanks have flotation zones, scum overflow pipes 5 and 9 and overflow weirs 7 to outlets 8 and 15. A skimmer may remove scum into inlet 11.
