Abstract
1478526 Settling apparatus PIELKENROOD-VINITEX BV 15 Nov 1974 [22 Dec 1973] 49593/74 Heading B1D A settling apparatus comprises a parallel plate separator 8 in a settling basin 1, in which liquid enters through supply tube 12 (slotted or perforated) flows (e.g. upwardly) between vertical parallel plates in triangular crosssectioned space 13 and reverses direction to enter inclined superposed parallel plate separator 8 then into chamber 4 and is discharged from there. Sedimented matter collects in a lower portion 10 and floating matter is discharged over weir 5 into discharge duct 6. The plates in space 13 may be corrugated and "out of phase" and parallel to the direction of flow as in Fig. 2 not shown, or may be such as to cause a serpentine like flow under and over parallel plates in channels of widening cross section (Figs. 3 and 4 not shown). Agglomeration of particles is caused by the varying flow gradient. Air bubbles or additives may be introduced adjacent the supply tube.
