644,976. Treating gases with liquids. WILLIAMSON, G. J., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 22, 1948, No. 24779. [Class 55(ii)] Apparatus for treating gases with liquids comprises a packed tower 1 in which a major proportion of the packing consists of one or more units formed from plates 2. the tops of which are thickened on both sides and staggered as shown, liquid being supplied to the tops of the plates. In a modification the tops of the plates may be pear-shaped. The plates may be constructed from wood, metal, earthenware or synthetic resins, and the bottom edges of the plates may also be thickened.
