496,051. Treating gases with liquids. SAYLES, H. S., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 20, 1937, No. 14107. [Class 55 (ii)] A tower for treating gases with liquids, e.g. for distillation, absorption, heat exchange or deaeration of water, has superposed contacting layers of packing elements, the lower edge of each element being serrated or sinuous, the whole or a part of the bottom of each downward projection 2 of the elements being in cross contact with an upper edge of an element in the next lower layer. The elements are thin vertical strips, parallel to each other in any layer and transverse to elements in adjacent layers, or are vertical cylinders of circular or elliptical cross-section or prisms of triangular, quadrangular, or other cross-section with their upper and lower edges serrated or sinuous. The elements are of metal, wood, earthenware, or synthetic resin. Specification 29786/97, [Class 29], is referred to.
