536,552. Gas scrubbers and washers. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. April 22, 1940, No. 7223. Convention date, April 26, 1939. [Class 55 (ii)] A packing for a fractionating column, gas scrubber or the like consists of superimposed cells formed of conical or like plates 6, 7 of material with capillary openings such as wire cloth, fabric, asbestos or glass wool and provided with inlet and outlet openings 12 for the gas or vapour. The liquid seals the meshes in the material and flows radially outwards in the top plate of each cell and radially inwards in the bottom plate.
