Abstract
599,400. Treating gases with liquids. SOC. DES CONDENSEURS DELAS. July 20, 1945, Nos. 18652, 18653, and 18654. Convention dates, April 30, 1941, Sept. 22, 1941, and Oct. 31, 1941. [Class 55 (ii)] The element of an apparatus for bringing gases into contact with liquids consists of plates with rows of triangular perforations regularly spaced either in parallel rows as in Fig. 3 or in quincunx formation as in Fig. 4 which are adapted to be sealed with liquid supplied to the upper edges of the plates. The perforations may be provided with flanges and in plates of suitable thickness may take the form of blind holes having a triangular outline. In a described application air is washed with water and the plates P, Fig. 7, are secured in a casing E and air passes through the apparatus in a direction f1 f2 f3, water being distributed over the plates by a rose D, the upper ends of the plates being bent obliquely and having a cut-out tongue to effect even distribution of the water over both surfaces of the plates. The lower ends of the plates are provided with toothed edges to facilitate collection of the used water. A modification uses the perforations of the plates to ensure even distribution of the washing liquid the upper ends of two adjacent plates being bent towards each other and connected at 7, 8 and 9 beneath the water troughs as shown in Fig. 14.
