Abstract

331,189. Stemp, White & Co., Ltd., and Krasnik, H. L. March 21, 1929. Flooring-blocks. - Wood paving blocks or panels of the kind produced by glueing or cementing a number of blocks together to form a large block with the grain running perpendicular to the upper and lower surfaces and cutting the blocks so formed at right angles to the grain to produce thin sheets, are characterised by the superposition of several of these sheets with the joints staggered in the various layers. As an alternative, two end-grain sheets may be placed on opposite sides of a straight grain sheet. Figs. 1 and 3 illustrate a block formed in three layers 1, 2, 3 with staggered joints, of which the middle layer 3 may be either end-grain or straight grain wood. Figs. 4 and 5 show slabs made by cementing sheets together face to face, instead of blocks, and cutting the large, block thus formed to produce thin end-grain sheets comprising parallel, strips 6. Two such sheets may be connected to an intermediate sheet 7 of straightgrain wood with the strips 6 of one end-grain sheet at right angles to those 8 of the other.
