Abstract

1,130,507. Contacting a gas or vapour with a liquid. LUMMUS CO. 10 Dec., 1965 [11 Dec., 1964], No. 52602/65. Heading B1R. Apparatus for countercurrently contacting a gas or vapour with a liquid has horizontal trays such as 14 with a liquid retaining rim 16 and a perforated section 22 arranged in a column in a staggered relationship and each occupying between 45 and 60% of the crosssectional area of the column. The trays may also have an inner liquid retaining flange 18. In a modification one tray may consist of two separated segmental-shaped parts and the tray above or below consist of a one-part centrally disposed tray with two liquid retaining rims and associated perforated portions. In a further modification alternate trays may be annular and circular.
