Abstract
853,296. Contacting gases with liquids. KITTEL, W. Jan. 15, 1957 [Jan. 16, 1956], No. 1531/57. Class 55 (2). A plate 1 (Fig. 1) for a gas-liquid contact column has openings 2 for the upward flow of gas so directed that liquid disposed on the plate is caused to flow across the plate, a channel b being arranged at the end of the liquid flow path to return liquid by a channel 3 to the beginning a of the flow path thereby equalizing the depth of liquid on the plate. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2) the plate 1 is surrounded by an annular channel 4 below the level of the surface of the plate, the channel 4 collecting liquid at b and returning ing it to the beginning a of the liquid flow path. In a modification of this arrangement the plate is divided into four sectors and liquid is returned from an annular channel 4 to a central distributing point by channels arranged between the sectors. In Fig. 5 the plate is arranged for rotating flow of liquid and is divided into six sectors, channels 3 being arranged beneath tne plate to return liquid from the channel 4 to a central distributing point and the beginning a of the flow path.
