Abstract

817,254. Rectifying. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd., and PETER, L. H. May 17, 1957 [May 18, 1956], No. 15551/56. Class 38 (2). To prevent damage by the high peak voltage which may occur, upon reversal of applied voltage, to a germanium, silicon or other rectifier which exhibits a high reverse current peak under such condition, an auxiliary rectifier is connected in parallel, poled similarly. This auxiliary rectifier, which may be of selenium or a thermionic valve should have in comparison with the main rectifier, a high forward impedance so that it takes only a small part of the main load, and a low reverse turn-over voltage to reduce the reverse peak voltage.
