Abstract

932,217. Switching systems for consuming devices. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. July 21, 1961 [Aug. 18, 1960], No. 28613/60. Class 38 (4). A polyphase A.C. power supply system for supplying power to a load 2 having sections 3, 4, 5 from a three-phase source 1 comprises unidirectional conductive devices connected between the load and the source, the devices being rendered conductive in a cyclic manner. In Fig. 1 with a star connected load, the unidirectional conductive devices are controllable semi-conductor rectifiers 6, 8, 10 which have reversely poled rectifiers 7, 9, 11 in parallel therewith. Alternatively the rectifiers 6-11 may be connected to the load on the side remote from the source. With a delta connected load as shown in Fig. 3 the reversely poled rectifiers can be dispensed with and this arrangement may be modified to comprise a six-phase version.
