Abstract
815,550. Valves. AEROQUIP CORPORATION. Oct. 29, 1956 [April 24, 1956], No. 32968/56. Class 135. A check valve comprises a pair of casing members 10, 12 with end fitting 11, 13, respectively, for coupling to a pipe, a spider member 14, a teardrop-shaped poppet 16 having an axial bore 30 receiving a hollow stem 15 which is secured to the hub 26 of the spider 14 by a shank 29, and a light coil spring 31 housed in the hollow stem 15 for biasing the poppet towards its seat 22. A slight radial clearance is provided in the fit of stem 15 within the bore 30, so that air pocketed in the bore may escape slowly as the valve opens, providing a dashpot action to prevent vibration and chattering of the poppet. The two casing members are sealed when coupled together by a gasket 32.
