Abstract
An organic film is deposited on a phosphor screen of a cathode-ray tube as a temporary step in the process of providing the screen with a metallic coating (see Group XL (a)) by floating it on the surface of a supporting solution which contains at least one water-soluble salt, e.g. potassium silicate, calcium nitrate, aluminium nitrate or trisodium phosphate, to improve the adhesion of the film and subsequently pouring off the supporting solution so that the film adheres to the surface. Potassium silicate with an average mol. ratio of K2O to SiO2 of 1:3.45 is preferred. The organic film may comprise nitrocellulose and a plasticizer in amyl acetate. The phosphor screen is first applied in the form of silicates while the solution for supporting the organic film contains potassium silicate. Specification 693,672, [Group XL (a)], is referred to.
