Abstract
A cathode-luminescent phosphor is deposited on a screen by spraying a water suspension of the phosphor and a binder on to the screen. The phosphor may be a manganese-activated zinc silicate, the binder a potassium silicate solution, colloidal silica or an organo-metallic compound, (e.g. of aluminium), and the spray may also include a wetting agent and a viscous agent, e.g. a polyvinyl alcohol. These organic agents may be removed by subsequent baking of the screen, leaving an inorganic suspension medium. The screen in use may have a charge pattern laid upon it by a high velocity electron beam, giving a secondary electron emission ratio greater than one, and the pattern then being rendered visible by a low-velocity electron beam.
