Abstract

1,223,773. Luminescent screens. THOMSON-CSF. 26 Feb., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968], No. 10250/69. Heading HID. In a method of making a luminescent screen for a cathode ray tube wherein a phosphor is deposited on a transparent substrate, varnish is deposited on the phosphor, and a metal layer is deposited on the varnish after which the varnish is removed by heat, a layer of viscous material is deposited on the phosphor before the application of the varnish. Suitable viscous materials comprise water and a highly polymerized resin such as methyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, or polyvinyl alcohol; a particular example is hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose so made up that a 1À5% solution has a viscosity of 8000 centipoises.
