Abstract

795,338. Cathode ray tubes. CINEMATELEVISION, Ltd. Sept. 1, 1954 [Sept. 1, 1953], No. 24152/53. Class 39(1). A cathode ray tube envelope, consisting wholly of vitreous materials, comprisesatubular body member 1 closed by a member 2 sealed to the internal surface of the body member and by a flanged neck member 4, 6 coaxial, or substantially coaxial, with the body member and also sealed to its internal surface, in which one or both end surfaces 7, 8 of the body member 1 are formed in planes perpendicular to the axis and in desired spatial relation to the internal surface of the member 2 so that by the use of a tubular mounting in conjunction with one or both surfaces 7, 8 an optical system can be located accurately with respect to the member 2. A method of forming the envelope by the use of chucks, locating members and grinding operations to form the surfaces 7 and 8 is described. An internal coating can be applied to neck and body members 6, 4 and 1 before the member 2 is sealed into place. The coating may be formed of a finely divided metal or reducible metal oxide, with some cementing agent, the whole carried in a liquid vehicle and painted on and fired. A fluorescent screen may be deposited on the inner surface of the member 2. Specification 748,486 [Group XXIII] is referred to.
