Abstract
813,884. Radial-flow turbines and compressors. INTERNATIONAL STAL CO. A.B. May 27, 1957 [Aug. 11, 1956], No. 16807/57. Class 110 (3). In a blade ring for radial-flow elastic fluid turbines or compressors comprising blades and at least two bond rings therefor, each blade is provided at one end or both ends with overhanging portions which act to balance the weight of the blade profile portion. In Fig. 1 the blade 1 is provided with roots 4, 5 which are grooved at 6 and bond rings 2, 3 are engaged with the blade grooves, the bond ring 3 being connected to a rotor disc 8 by means of a connecting ring 10. The blade roots are extended at 7 to provide overhanging portions. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3, the overhanging portion n is shaped to provide a further passage for the flow of working fluid. In this embodiment also, more than one passage for flow of working fluid, shown at a and m, are provided between the blade root portions. The sides of the blade roots 4, 5 are notched at 9 so as to engage the support rings. In Fig. 4 the connecting ring 10 is provided with an inturned annular flange 13 which engages in a groove 14 formed in the overhanging portions 7 of the blades so as to permit relative radial movement between the parts. The flange 13 is formed with projections 15 which engage in grooves formed in or between the overhanging elements 7 so as to permit transfer of tangential forces.
