In the weldingroperation before mentioned the vhannels l; are completely or partially tilleul with nivtal, whivh, welding with the channels and the Yanes, makes a permanent f-t'mnvvtion and at thv same time thickens thv nivtal at that point, thereby greatly strengthfixing the rings. lf desired. howevvr, sllpporting rings may also be added as'y/ in lig. t lo add greater strength or the rings n may he made thinner and the supporting rings f/ added in place of a heavy filling in of the rha'invls b.
In Figs. 2 :1nd.3 a portion e of the Yanes extends alittle beyond the side of the ring and tilts np the channels in thewvlding proeess without. the addition el other metal, solder, &e.
