Abstract

770,528. Steam turbine blade assemblies. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and MITCHELL, J. M. Jan. 24, 1955 [Feb. 5, 1954], No. 3462/54. Class 110 (3). In a steam turbine of the axial-flow type, coverband members 3 are secured between the tips of each pair of adjacent rotor blades 1, 2, each coverband being of arched or bowed formation, the arching or bowing being directed radially inwardly towards the blade roots so that centrifugal force on each coverband causes it to tend to lengthen and to exert end thrusts on the adjacent blades, the end thrusts being balanced by the end thrusts of adjacent coverband members. The coverband 3 is secured to the adjacent blades, also to the adjacent coverband member 4, 5 by rivets 8, 9. In Fig. 3 members 12 forming auxiliary stiffening radially inwardly of the blade tips are bowed inwardly similarly to the coverband members 11.
