Abstract
813,673. Handling liquid cargoes. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Aug. 28, 1957 [Sept. 26, 1956], No. 27099/57. Class 78 (4). A number of side-by-side flexible conduits 74, e.g. joining piping 3 on a ship to piping 2 on a quay, are each supported from a tower 7 by pairs of clamps 101, 102, 201, 202, 301, 302 slung from beams 45, 55, 65 supported from hoists 41, 52, 62, of which the outboard hoist 41 is mounted on a trolley 42 running on a rail 26 supported from the cross beam of a U-shaped pivoted yoke 22 which can be swung about its pivot 24 to vary its reach. As illustrated the yoke 22 is swung by a line 27 passing round pulleys 14, 15, 16 to a winch 7 which, together with the hoists 41 and 52, is driven either pneumatically or electrically and may be controlled remotely from the quay or the ship. The hoist 62 may be manually operated. The clamps 101 ... 302 are supported by slings 103, 203, 303 from pulleys 47, 57, 67 on the beams 45, 55, 65. In their out-of-use position the conduits remain connected to the piping 2 at their lower ends and are hoisted to a roughly vertical position in which liquid left in the conduits may be released through drains 85 into a drainage channel 80.
