Class 78 (4) A crane has a horizontally movable beam 12 supporting a block 13 by means of a cable 14 passing round a pulley 15 on the block and round pulleys 16, 17 mounted between a pair of spaced plates 21 secured to the end of the beam to prevent swinging of the load. The plates carry brackets 25 for end rollers 23 to guide the block as it is raised between plates 26 connecting the plates 21. The block can be locked between plates 26 by a pin 62 which passes through holes in the plates 27 of the block, a lug on the pin engaging a lug on the bracket 25 to secure. The lugs are disengaged and the block freed by rotating a handle 66 on the pin and then withdrawing the pin. The cargo sling 32 is secured to brackets 29 on the block by pin 33. Each pin has a handle 35 which rests in a bracket 36 on the sling and is rotated to release the pin and so free the sling from the block. The sling has hooks 41 secured to lugs 40 on the sling to engage eyes on the pallet. A stop 28 on the block engages a stop 30 on the plates 21. An alternative form of pallet tor use with the sling is shown in Fig. 6. The pallet 46 comprises spaced upper and lower bars 47 connected by cross members 48 and is supported on members 57 in a framework 45.. The framework has lugs 50 to which the lugs 40 of the sling are attached by means of a pin the handle of which releasably engages a' bole 52 in member 51 to secure the sling. Bars 53 connect the members 51 to provide handles for easily transporting the frame. The pallet is easily removed from the frame by sliding members 57, which pass between the upper and lower bars 47. Hooks 61 and brackets prevent accidental removal of the bars. Two booms may be used 'and two slings 12 operated simultaneously. The booms are movable horizontally through, for instance, the port in the side of a ship. Alternatively a trolley type crane can be used.
