Abstract

812,878. Supplying current to rotating conductors. HACKBRIDGE & HEWITTIC ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., WINTER, R. J., and WEST, J. A. Sept. 25, 1957 [July 24, 1957], No. 23394/57. Class 38 (1). A device for transferring electric current to a rotatable conductor comprises a hinge contact with two parts coaxially mounted having a sliding fit one within the other, the current being carried by balls disposed between, and elastically pressed into contact with, the two parts. The rod 15 screws into the two plugs 13, 14 to form a composite hinge pin which at each end is a sliding fit in the sleeve 16 connected to the fixed member 11. On the rod 15 are freely mounted two cones 21, 22 with a spring 23 between. Silver-plated phosphor bronze balls 24, 25 are placed between the cones 21, 22 and the plugs 13, 14 and the pressure exerted by the spring 23 forces them into contact with the wall of the sleeve 16 as well as the plugs 13, 14. Sealing washers 19, 20 are located in grooves in the wall of the sleeve 16, and the plugs 13, 14 each have a reduced diameter which is threaded to enable them to be secured to the moving member 10, 12.
