Abstract

Stainless steel and aluminium alloys which are to be brought into contact with hydrogen peroxide having a concentration of at least 70 per cent and containing at least 5 parts per million orthophosphoric acid are passivated by treatment for at least one hour with an aqueous solution containing at least 20 per cent hydrogen peroxide and not less than 10 parts per million orthophosphoric acid. The metal may form a container, pipe or pump.ALSO:Stainless steel and aluminium alloys which are to be brought into contact with hydrogen peroxide having a concentration of at least 70 per cent and containing at least 5 parts per million orthophosphoric acid are passivated by treatment for at least one hour with an aqueous solution containing at least 20 per cent hydrogen peroxide and not less than 10 parts per million orthophosphoric acid. The metal may form a container, pipe or drum.
