Abstract

809,881. Ball and socket joints. THOMPSON PRODUCTS Inc. Jan. 4, 1957 [Jan. 13, 1956], No. 471/57. Class 65(2) A resilient annular seal has a neck portion 21c, Fig. 2, fitting snugly on the stud 12, a concave surface 21a engaging the convex surface of the joint housing 10, and a flange 21b which extends outwardly from the neck portion away from the concave surface and is depressed on assembly of the joint by the flat surface of a joint member 13 to provide a tight seal therebetween. The seal may be made of self-lubricating plastics material, and one or more annular segmental spherical bearing members 20 may be provided between the seal and the housing. In a modification, Fig. 5, the flange 211 and the segmental spherical portion 213 of the seal are separate slidingly contacting parts, and a resilient ring 212 is compressed between them.
