808,508. Mowing machines. DUFOUR, L. Jan. 19, 1956 [Feb. 5, 1955], No. 1872/56. Class 6(3). A mowing machine for attachment to the front of a tractor preferably a two-wheeled tractor, comprises a cutter and a counterweight driven from the power take-off of the tractor so as to reciprocate in opposite directions. The drive to the cutter and counterweight comprises a pulley 12, rotated from the power take-off of the tractor and which drives a second pulley 17 through belts 18, the latter pulley being mounted at one end of a rotary shaft 16 passing into an oil-bath container 14 mounted on the frame 1 of the machine. A fly wheel 20 mounted on the other end of the shaft 16 carries a crank pin 21 which is also fixed to an oval plate 22, the oval plate carrying a second crank pin 23. The crank pin 21 is connected to one end of a hollow shaft 26 which carries the cutter 4 at its other end, and the crank pin 23 is connected to one end of a hollow shaft 29 which is co-axial with the shaft 26 and carries at its opposite end the counterweight 33. Thus rotation of the fly wheel 20 causes the oscillation of the shafts 26 and 29, and the reciprocation of the cutter and counterweight, the arrangement of the cranks being such that the reciprocations of the cutter and counterweight are 180 degrees out of phase. An elastic bar 34 passes through the hollow shaft 26 and is connected at one end to the shaft 26 and at the other to the shaft 29, thereby acting so as to damp the inertia effects of the cutter and counterweight. The machine is further provided with swath boards 5 mounted on its frame 1.
