Abstract
814,163. Reaping machines. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. Oct. 25, 1957, No. 33394/57. Class 6(3). [Also in Group XXIV] The reciprocating blade 4 of a mower of the sickle type is driven by an arm 15 on an oscillatory shaft 17 which is driven from a driving shaft 66 through an inclined crank 64 having a bearing sleeve 63 thereon coupled by transverse trunnions 59, 60 to a yoke 50 on the shaft 17. A rearward extension of the arm 15 carries a counterweight 20. The blade 4 is coupled by a pin 12 to the arm 15 and the shaft 17 is supported in a bearing 90 carried by a rear housing part 76 which can be readily detached together with the whole of the drive mechanism from a front housing part 39 to which is secured the cutter bar 3 and foundation plate structure 25. The shaft 17 is made hollow to serve as a reservoir for lubricant which is filled through a grease nipple 95 and passes through a passage 97 to the pin 12.
