Abstract

800,090. Cutting silage. ATKINSON'S AGRICULTURAL APPLIANCES, Ltd. March 8, 1955 [March 9, 1954], No. 6765/54. Class 6 (2). A silage cutter comprises a triangular blade 5 reciprocated by means of a cam 10 connected to a connecting rod 9, the cam being driven by means of a petrol engine. A crank case 8 encloses the cam 10 and connecting rod 9 and is connected toa frame structure 23 which adjustably supports the engine unit 16. A handle 24 is mounted on each side of the structure 23 which also carries hand starting lever 28. A shoe 35 is bolted to the lower end of the crank case to limit the depth of penetration of the blade and to provide a fulcrum about which the implement may be rocked. A stay may be provided to assist in rocking the blade and may be pivoted in the case and provided with a pointed end and a disc to limit its penetration into the silage. Alternatively the stay may be made in two parts hinged together. The blade may be of stepped formation. In a further modification the primemover may be an electric motor mounted with its rear axis vertical.
