Abstract

765,476. Hedge cutters; agricultural implements. TEAGLE, W. T. March 23, 1955 [March 23, 1954], No. 8493/54. Classes 6(1), 6(2) and 6(3). A portable power operated machine for use in cutting hedges and in hoeing and cultivating operations comprises a tubular frame 1, a power unit 2 carried at one end of the frame, a reciprocating workhead projecting from the other end and a drive shaft. 34 extending through the frame member for transmitting power from the power unit to the workhead. As shown the power unit comprises a petrol motor which drives the shaft 34 through belt gearing, and is suspended from a sleeve 3 which may be rotated on the frame 1 and held in position by a set screw (not shown). The engine may be moved by a handle 61 to loosen the belt 31 to disengage the drive from the engine. As shown, reciprocating cutter blades are driven by a connecting rod 46 connected to a crankpin 45 mounted on a gear wheel 39 driven by a gear wheel 38 mounted on the shaft 34. The blades are mounted in a member 50 which is adjustable about a bush 41. The frame 1 is made in two parts, one of which is provided with a nut and bolt 73 for clamping the two parts after they have been screwed together. The shaft 34 is also made in two parts, one part being provided with a square peg 67 which mates with a square socket 68 provided on the other part of the shaft. The machine may be fitted with workheads as described in Specification 718,819.
