680,600. Hedge and lawn trimmers. HEDGE CUTTERS PROPRIETARY, Ltd. Jan. 8, 1951 [Jan. 27, 1950], No. 480/51. Classes 6(ii) and 6(iii) Vegetation is cut by teeth 35 projecting from an endless chain 34 as they sweep over teeth 40 on the casing. The two sets of teeth differ in spacing so that the movable teeth do not come into cutting position simultaneously. Movement is transmitted from an electric or other motor through jointed tubing by hollow shafting and bevel and worm and wheel gearing. Knurled-headed bolts 47 connect winged end-members 43, 46 on the tool-head 11 and handle 44, maintaining in gear the toothed wheels 49, 50 on the enclosed motion-transmitting shafts 15, 48. The angle of the handle relative to the tool may be adjusted by slackening the bolts 47. At the other end of the handle the splined end of the motor shaft is maintained in engagement with the hollow shaft 48 by a clamping sleeve 60 tightened over a split tapered ring 61. For cutting grass cr undergrowth the device may be mounted on wheels.
