A motor-mower of the reciprocating-blade type is provided with a horizontal petrolengine 5 having a cylinder block 8 extending to the rear of the crankshaft, the axis 7 of which is vertical and drives the cutter-bar 6 mounted on a forward extension 24 of the main frame 20 which is also provided with lateral non-driven wheels 22 and a rearwardly and upwardly inclined handle 33. The crankshaft drives a horizontal shaft 12 through a gearbox 11, this shaft having on one end a crack disc 13 and pitman 28 which transmits motion to the cutter 26 through a bell-crank 25 pivoted on the extension 24. The extension is received in a socket 23 on the main frame and is mounted on a pair of wheels 29 carried by an adjustable yoke 30 enabling the cutting-height to be varied. The other end of the shaft 12 carries a pulley 14 which drives a layshaft 16 mounted on a bracket 19. The lay-shaft carries a mounting at its other end for a flexible drive to a power-operated tool such as a hedge-trimmer or edge-trimmer or to a pump. The lay-shaft 16 is mounted in a housing 17 which is secured to the bracket 19 by a nut 55 which may be released to remove the lay-shaft and housing. The shaft 16 is driven by a pulley 15 secured to it by a dog-clutch 41. The other end of the shaft has a socket 48 for receiving the flexible cable to drive the hedgecutter. Alternatively, the housing 17 may be replaced by a pump supplying fluid to a hydraulically-operated hedge-cutter, or by a pump used for crop-spraying.
