Abstract
918,914. Treating turf. WALLIS, G. L. June 3, 1959 [March 11, 1958], No. 7803/68. Classes 6(1) and 6(2). A machine for piercing holes or making slits in turf comprises a pair of crankshafts spaced one behind the other in a wheeled platform 1 and turf working tools 19 connected to the throws of the crankshaft. As shown the platform 1 supports a power driven lawn mower 5 which drives friction wheels 6 in the frame 1. The wheels 6 drive a roller 2 through a chain 30 and the crankshafts through the intermediary of intermeshing oval gears 11, 14. Each crankshaft comprises three throws and the outer throws are adapted to be disconnected from the centre throw to enable all the tools 19 to be moved clear of the ground. Aligned throws of the crankshafts are interconnected by a cross-head which is adapted to support a tool 19 adjacent to each throw. In place of the mower 5 the machine may be fitted with an engine or electric motor.
