Abstract
1,229,587. Harvesters. MASSEY-FERGUS ON G.m.b.H. 24 May, 1968 [6 June, 1967], No. 25968/67. Heading A1F. [Also in Division F2] In a combine harvester having a variable ratio drive for a driven mechanism the drive comprises a belt and pulley drive connection between first and second shafts, the first shaft being drivingly connected to, radially spaced from, parallel to and position adjustable around a shaft of the mechanism and the pulley on only one of the pair of shafts is a variable diameter V-belt pulley. In an application to a combine harvester the cylinder 1, Fig. 3, of the threshing mechanism is driven from a drive shaft (5), Fig. 1 (not shown), via an intermediate shaft 6 and a variable ratio pulley 12. The latter drives the cylinder 1 via shaft 7, gears 20, 21, 23 and shaft 13A in a gearbox which is rotatably mounted at 15 in a wall 2A. The effective diameter of pulley 12 is variable by moving the shaft 7 around the axis of the cylinder 1 by rotating of the gearbox 13 using a screw-threaded control rod (16) having a hand control wheel (19). The gearbox may have two ratios as shown, the intermediate shaft (6) may be the shaft of a rear beater of the threshing mechanism and shaft 13A may be connected to a tachometer. The variable diameter pulley has spring-loaded flanges 27, 28, Fig. 4 (not shown), mounted on a pair of axially slidable sleeves 31, 32 which co-operate with seals 38, 40, 41 to form annular lubricant chambers which are interconnected by passages 44.
