Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of the balancer shaft of an internal combustion engine and reduce both the size and weight of the engine by connecting the balancer attached rotatably to a crankshaft to a main shaft through a stretch transmission mechanism and allowing it to rotate in the direction opposite to that of the crankshaft at the same speed. CONSTITUTION:A balancer 17 is attached to one end of the crankshaft 6 rotatably thereto through a sleeve 15 and a needle bearing 16. The balancer 17 is provided with a driven sprocket 18 on its boss and also provided integrally with a balance weight 19 which is eccentric to the center of rotation of the boss. Furthermore, a driving sprocket 37 is fixed on a driven gear 23 attached rotatably to a main shaft 24 through a sleeve 28, and the balancer 17 is rotated reversely at the same speed as that of the crankshaft by connecting the driving sprocket 37 and the driven sprocket 18 by a chain.
