Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the width of an engine compact by forming a driven gear on a balancer shaft which is rotated together with a crankshaft to absorb the vibration of the engine and engaging the output gear of a kick type starting mechanism with the driven gear. CONSTITUTION:In the two-cycle engine of a motorcycle, a driven gear 7d is formed on a balancer shaft 7 which is provided in order to absorb the vibration of an engine caused by the rotation of a crankshaft 3. At the time of starting the engine, as a kick arm 10c is stepped down, a kick shaft 10b is rotated causing a kick gear 10a to rotate an intermediate gear 8b. At this time, the intermediate gear 8b is moved in the position shown by the figure and engaged with the driven gear 7d to rotate the balancer shaft 7, causing the crankshaft 3 to be rotated via an intermediate gear 7b and a driving gear 7c to start the engine. By this method, it is not necessary to separately instal a starting dog mechanism, etc., on a crankshaft merely by utilizing a conventionally provided balancer shaft 7, enabling the width of the engine to be made compact by that amount.
