Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the transverse width of a crankshaft by providing, between the crankshaft and a transmission input shaft, an intermediate shaft for driving a generator and an ignition pulser. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate shaft 18 is driven by the crankshaft 8 of a multi-cylinder engine 4 through a transmission mechanism such as for example a chain. The intermediate shaft transmits power to a clutch and transmission unit through a gear train. An alternator 19 and an ignition pulser are coupled to both ends of the intermediate shaft 8, respectively. With this arrangement, the alternator and the like have not to be coupled to both ends of the crankshaft 8 so that the length of the crankshaft may be lessened. Further the width of a frame in this portion may be reduced due to the short length of the crankshaft.
