Abstract
1,074,915. Combine harvesters. KOMBINAT FORTSCHRITT LANDMASCHINEN VEB. Sept. 28, 1965, No. 41265/65. Heading A1F. A variable speed drive for driving a thresher drum of a combine harvester comprises a variable diameter pulley (not shown) driving through a belt 18 a variable diameter pulley 19 having flanges urged together by a spring. As shown the pulley 19 is rotatable relative to a shaft 35 coupled to the thresher drum shaft 9, and drives the thresher drum through gear train 40, 41, 43 and 45 at a speed within a low ratio range. The gear 45 is slidable on a splined portion of the shaft 35, and when the gear train is interrupted by actuation of lever 49 lugs 47 on the gear will engage lugs 46 on the gear 40, which is integral with the pulley shaft 20, to drive the thresher drum at a speed within a higher ratio range. The shaft 35 may alternatively be a continuation of the shaft 9. In another embodiment (Figs. 1-4, not shown) the thresher drum is driven in the low ratio range by a belt and pulley system, and the variable diameter pulley may be mounted on a shaft which is releasably connected to the drum shaft, or alternatively may be mounted directly on the thresher drum shaft.
